This afternoon we dropped Abbey off at Dulles International. She will embark on a journey of a lifetime as she meets up with 49 other ASSE Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange scholarship recipients bound for Germany for a year abroad. Her year will begin in D.C. as she spends three days on Capitol Hill meeting representatives and getting oriented to the program. She will then fly to Frankfurt and take a train to Hamburg where she will be hosted by her family until next June. Upon arrival, she will enroll in German language school for three weeks to help her learn basic German and transition into the culture. She is fortunate that her host family lives very close and she can get settled in right away. They will teach her how to take the train into the city from the small town of Bokel. On August 29th she will begin German high school.
