Today Abbey received her National Geographic Adventure magazine. On the cover . . . "Best of the Southwest, 25 New Adventures." Can you believe it? The timing couldn't have been any better! Moab, Monument Valley, Zion, Grand Caynon, Chaco, Mesa Verde, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and more! I can't wait to share the Four Corners area with the girls.
Now that the trip has been conceived, planning begins. After much research, it looks like the most inexpensive way to travel from Gustavus to the lower 48 is via the Vberg Victory Van! The victory label is a little corny, I know, but it comes from the long awaited and eagerly anticipated Obama win. Yes We Can! Our family has this quirky habit of naming our cars, boats, etc. to reflect our fun-loving personalities! We will barge the VV over to Juneau with a local company, Sealevel Transport. From Juneau, we will board the AK Marine Highway and ferry down to Bellingham. We'll load up the VV with our camping supplies, cooler, bikes, etc. so won't have to resupply or carry all our gear on an airplane. Logistically, using the VV will be much easier in comparison.
When we arrive in Bellingham, our focus will be getting to Yellowstone NP as quickly as possible. The snow starts to fly by early October. The rest of the trip will focus on the Four Corners area and Big Bend NP. We anticipate our trip will begin mid-September and end around mid-November.
We have a lot of planning to do over the next several months, but will keep you posted!
